Hurricane Marco was the first of two tropical cyclones to threaten the Gulf Coast within a three-day period along with Hurricane Laura. After entering the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico on August 23, Marco intensified into a hurricane. Marco made landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River on the evening of August 24. Overall, Marco caused approximately $35 million in damages throughout the impacted areas.
